Face Swap

Minimalism Phase 1 & 2

1) Write down how you would define Minimalism in Photography. What qualities should minimalist photographs possess? It should possess minimal complexity and should be only one or 2 objects in the image.

2) Explore the images found on the links below (and/or do your own web search) and pick three photographs that (based on you defined minimalism) you feel are exemplary examples of minimalism in photography.  I feel that the first third and fourth image were just what I defined minimalism as, No complexity and minimal objects in frame.

PHASE 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------

How does this change in viewpoint change your interpretation of the image?

It changes everything, I now know the image is not photo shoped

Image #3 shows the actual work by Helnwein after being installed in Waterford, Ireland. The name of the photograph is "The Last Girl". From this viewpoint you can see the size and location of the work. The first image you saw (Image #1)

was a photograph documenting the installation of this large-scale image.

With that in mind, describe Helnwein's image in as much detail as you can and in a separate post, record your answers on your Blog. Look at the image closely (Click on it to enlarge). What do you see? Describe it as if you were recounting it in detail to someone who had never seen it. Think about the scale--how could the size affect the meaning?  Think about the material, the logistics and engineering of mounting it.  Is it one contiguous image or is it spliced together or can't you tell?

i think the image is a very realistic representation of a small girl and that it is so realistic I thought it was a picture. It is just good

Think about the location--is it urban? Rural? Residential? Industrial? Given the image's location, who do you think will see the it? Who is the intended audience? Describe the mood of the image. What is the expression on the girl's face? Is it blase? Is it engaged? Is it optimistic? Wondering? Melancholy?
Industial because the buildings have few windows and are very tall. It appears to be near a concrete sea wall so it isnt rural, and there are many tall concrete buildings so it is industial.

Finally, consider the title "The Last Girl". What do you think the title suggests?
I think it meansthe last girl of the century, like that she was born on 12/30/99.

I feel the image is a very odd image in which a rock climber seems to be climbing the nose crest of a woman. the image is quite white and is very clear. It does not appear to be blured in any way. It looks almost realistic and maybe the rope is actualy a cut through her head.

1) State what fear you think that the photo is conveying. Traumatophobia
2) Assess whether you feel the photo is successful in conveying the fear (and why...be specific.) I feel the photo was successful because the student had a perfect amount of description in just the photo
3) Make 1 constructive comment about the photo (one suggestion for a change or improvement) I think you should make the next one in color
